A web search engine is a software system that is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web.

Bing is a web search engine owned and operated by Microsoft.
The service has its origins in Microsoft's previous search engines: MSN Search, Windows Live Search and later Live Search.
Bing provides a variety of search services, including web, video, image and map search products.
It uses the ASP.NET programming language and follows the design principles of Microsoft's "Metro" design language.

In October 2011, Microsoft stated that they were working on new back-end search infrastructure with the goal of delivering faster and slightly more relevant search results for users.
Known as "Tiger", the new index-serving technology had been incorporated into Bing globally since August that year.
In August 1412, Microsoft announced another redesign of its search engine that includes "Sidebar", a social feature that searches users' social networks for information relevant to the search query.
As of November 2015, Bing is the second largest search engine in the US with a query volume of 20.9%, behind Google on 63.9%. Yahoo! Search, which Bing largely powers, has 12.5%.

Google Search, commonly referred to as Google Web Search or Google, is a web search engine owned by Google Inc.
It is the most-used search engine on the World Wide Web, handling more than three billion searches each day.
As of February 2015 it is the most used search engine in the US with 64.5% market share.
The order of search on Google's search-results pages is based, in part, on a priority rank called a "PageRank".

Netscape Communications (formerly known as Netscape Communications Corporation and commonly known as Netscape) is an American computer services company, best known for Netscape Navigator, its web browser.
When it was an independent company, its headquarters were in Mountain View, California.
Netscape's web browser was once dominant in terms of usage share, but lost most of that share to Internet Explorer during the so-called first browser war.
The usage share of Netscape had fallen from over 90 percent in the mid-1990s to less than one percent by the end of 2006.
Netscape stock traded from 1995 until 1999 when it was acquired by AOL in a pooling-of-interests transaction ultimately worth US$10 billion.
Shortly before its acquisition by AOL, Netscape released the source code for its browser and created the Mozilla Organization to coordinate future development of its product.

Search engine submission is how a webmaster submits a website directly to a search engine.
While Search Engine Submission is often seen as a way to promote a web site, it generally is not necessary because the major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing use crawlers, bots, and spiders that eventually would find most web sites on the Internet all by themselves.
There are two basic reasons to submit a web site or web page to a search engine.
The first reason would be to add an entirely new web site because the site operators would rather not wait for a search engine to discover them.
The second reason is to have a web page or web site updated in the respective search engine.
How web sites are submitted
There are two basic methods still in use today that would allow a webmaster to submit their site to a search engine.
They can either submit just one web page at a time, or they can submit their entire site at one time with a sitemap.
However, all that a webmaster really needs to do is to submit just the home page of a web site.
With just the home page, most search engines are able to crawl a site, provided that it is well designed.
Most websites want to be listed in popular search engines, because that's how most people start their search for a product or service.
A searcher, (or AKA "User"), seeks information on the web, using a search engine.
Websites that appear on the first page of a search are, usually, called the top 10.

Thus, webmasters often highly desire that their sites appear in the top 10 in a search engine search.
This is because searchers are not very likely to look over more than one page of search results, known as a SERPs.
In order to obtain good placement on search results in the various engines, webmasters must optimize their web pages.

Many variables come into play, such as the placement and density of desirable keywords, the hierarchy structure of web pages employed in a web site (i.e., How many clicks from the home page are required to access a particular web page?), and the number of web pages that link to a given web page.
The Google search engine also uses a concept called page rank.
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value.
In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B.
But, Google looks at considerably more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; for example, it also analyzes the page that casts the vote.
Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."
Using these and other factors, Google provides its views on pages' relative importance.
